....do I want to be represented and exhibted at and by a New York Photographic gallery.... well that's what the email said so I've replied 'Which Ones?' without trying to sound too eager...could be all internet waffle and be nothing but they sent me a link and they look the real deal... celebs and everything at opening nights..... no, I'm far too old to get giddy but you, my one dear reader, will of course be the first to know.... meh !
Which probably brings me on to next year which will see a lot of changes happening and I have a few projects rattling around the skirting boards in my noggin, football crowds and woodland but a mere 2 of them, I've already done some preliminary faffing and what I want..er I can get, just logistics from now on and maybe weather... Still waiting for the bag of swag to get dropped onto my doorstep from our colonial cousins, must be the Christmas post...must be... I've had a look at all the Nik software training stuff and I can't wait until I get my creaky mitts on it/them and maybe a few videos on how to do some uber faffing..was on the cusp of doing some Photoshop ones this morning but with the weather whipping the soffet boards off the side of the house I'll have to bin that until after all the festive fun and look to borrow a big pair of ladders... Had a wander into Stockport yesterday and took a few snaps...not really given the old place any attention for ages but will be out and about after christmas, took note of lots of interesting stuff...so here are some i saw yesterday

...idiom..seperating the chaff from the grain..although I'm not sure if these are the former or later.. Some shots from the hills of Derbyshire illustrating unfinished and abandoned mill stones that litter certain parts of the Peak District. This time of year when the undergrowth dies back you can find these littering the countryside near any rocky outcrop..so without further ado... You'd need a digger to move these if you were looking to use tham as a garden feature and if you enter the Peak District National park you are likely to find a Symbolic Millstone as an indicator that you are now in a National Park...... educational and informative...must be the caffeine kicking in earlier. My Christmas gift to you today is my 'Band of the Year'...okay this isnt the GQ awards or the Brits but these guys mix up old Public service film footage with those syncopated toe tapping tunes that youngsters like...I give you Public Service Broadcasting watch the videos, listen to the tunes and maybe buy the Album but watch the videos...some great Mono images in there, you might learn something...oh chuffmonkeys..educational and informative again...time to get out there and do some snapping.............oh TFI Friday.... all my images are being made available on redbubble as cards, prints, canvas and ...er stuff... So just fizzed past some from January of this year and now into a rump of files from June mainly to do with the Scottish Highlands...so many..and looks like i had a fluffy sensor at some points so a bit of uber-tickling with some content aware spotting. Here's some I did earlier So new Panoramas and a big pile of Daylight long exposures to get through, now they'll all fill up a gallery on their own soon but I'll post into these blog pages until I have them all done. Next trick is to send them hither and thither to earn themselves a crust... that can wait as I just havn't got it in me to do some mega keyword faff...back to those Bonny Scottish files.. aaayyyyyyeeee.... Well if you don't buy a ticket...there's me being all cynical about competitions and the probability that the advertised prizes may just be some construct on this digital plain that I wander around on and then...I get an email asking me for my shipping address and to brace myself for a bag of swag. Okay it's Christmas , chances are that I won't be seeing anything until the New Year but I can wait... so not sure of what's coming, things were being added... but there was a rather nice 'metrosexual photographer' man bag and a dollop of software so I'll take up position now by the front door with a view to grabbing anything Postie thrusts in my direction. This was all part of the 2013 Worldwide Photowalk that I ran in Manchester back in October and as leader I had the chance to enter the comp for best leader shot...okay no first prize but a top ten finish, przes may just pay for all the time I used on organising and answering emails... worth it though. Should be out and about doing some more 'creative' stuff this week, looks like there is a chance of it not raining tomorrow and I need some contrasty light to make the next bit work...it may involve multi in camera exposures and ND filters... straight to the 'Marmite ' pile then... I also have in mind some mono work but long and wide open.also back to the slog of uploading to Image libraries again this week...keywords, keywords....lots of search engine friendly keywords. So busy week all in all and I'll post stuff to show you if any new experimental work avoids being sent to the recycle bin.. ..maybe age related but they seem to be coming along quicker and quicker. Mind you photographically it's been a good week, some new techniques, if not mastered, at least understood. Getty images popped along for another dollop of images...okay they keep taking more and more, nice pat on the back but I'd like to see the amount of sales rise in proportion to the increase in the number of files they take. But if you are the regular reader of this fluff , you'll now that banking on image library sales to keep the wolf from the door is only available to an elite bunch and quite frankly I'm on the outside, shuffling my feet, standing ever closer to a flaming brazier, waiting for the soup wagon to open.
The videos I've posted on the blog have been getting some big hits this last week...to distance myself from highly polished cinematic experience photoshop videos available elsewhere on the net, mine are unscripted, mostly uncut and if mistakes or glitches happen , well I leave them in, because that's what usually happens when we get stuck in to post processing...stuff happens..don't panic, deal with it and carry on. Crappy weather again but I have in mind some macro shooting but using a monster candlepower Lithium Ryobi industrial torch I have...maybe you'll see some results later...I know, I can't help myself maybe I should bore myself rigid and produce loads of stuff of similar subject matter...hahhhh..that's never going to happen... Just had a thought ..in this age of hi-tech digital whizzery...why do we have to clean our image sensors with some liquid and a fancy Q tip???? surely someone could create a gizmo that clicks on to the lens mount and sucks, swipes or slurps any junk away.... at the press of a button, not beyond the witt of man I think!! that's right..twirling, Christmas lights time and before they hang on the christmas tree why not let them stretch their legs and provide a light source for your photographic exploits, here's a few I did with a set of lights from the Pound shop...yes a quid, who need's hi-tech flash gear...??? So here are a few to inspire you.. So the centre one had a shooting set of 5 seconds at f13 iso 100 using one set of LED Christmas lights, should give you a starting place for your exposures You can also take this outside with it being a wee bit safer than twirling a whisk full of burning steel wool about....and it's a darn site cheaper. So I'm also going to see what you can get up too with a torch as the only light source, more of that later.
Okay another Video tutorial, part one of 'Mirroring'...now that might not make sense so I'll show you some mirror images I've done recently... So from almost real to barking mad..this is the first part where I show you the basic technique and get you started on your own creations. have fun with this and if you do use this technique just give this page a link so other folk can give it a whiz as well. Okay so you survived that one, lets take it a bit further...... So , check your image size, create a crop as a preset which reduces the height by a half and get stuck in....there are images hidden in those files of yours...go find them.
Okay if you go to the new images page you may have noticed that some of the images have departed for fresh fields you'll find them here but there are some new ones to take their place here Back to some architectural monkeying around, part of the Solute set and most of them based in Manchester, I'll be doing an online video tutorial on how to do these quickly and simply, make a note and come back for a look So bits of buildings made into something else.....I'll take you through how to look and figure out what to do and how to get deep into image faffology to create your own imagery.
