This isn't a 'hi tec, whiz banger stuff that's in there but will never use' review of the D750 body, just a few impressions from unboxing to seeing how it's muscles flex when I try my style of shooting with it.
So coming from a D700, this is smaller and lighter and can I say it, dosn't have the 'heft' or tactile quality of finish to the outer black casing and I'm not sure if it will have the same bouncability as the D700 has. They eyepiece is square with a rubber cup that already has popped off once, not screwed to the body, my prefernce is for a deep round eye rubber cup in conjuction with a magnification eyepiece as I have on the D700 and what's this, no switch on the pentaprism to block out light getting in through the eyepiece when shooting long exposures just a little piece of plastic to cover things after you slide off the rubber eyepiece...night time shooters get a bagful of eyepieces from that amazon place as you and I will drop and lose them or they'll just fly off in your camera bag. Erm , Nikon, your USB cable is far too short, plugged in to a PC the camera has to sit on the floor or perilously close to the edge of the office desk...6" would be nice...where have I heard that before? Arggggghhh, Multiple in camera shooting menu, you can have 2 or 3...why when the old skool D700 has an option to shoot 10, under engineered or is my type of shooting residing in a diminishing niche?? So long exposures and multi image shooting remain as the D700s domain. Ermmmm why not, when you have the camera in video mode have the shutter button as the record button, not a teensy little red blob on the top casing. Camera strap, not leather backed as per D700, quite harsh on the old neck , it will be changed but then it really can shoot in the dark with an f1.8 on and the ISO cranked to silly levels without chunks of noise breaking out, feels great in the hand and is lighter, has a squishy shutter sound rather than the mechanical thwack of the D700...oh no flash cover on the pentaprism. So i'll come back and tell you how I've set up the menus and customised the bits in there for my type of shooting next. I can forgive all of the above because the low level light shooting, video and time lapse really are something else.
