Honey...I'm home..

Well that was an exciting crossing, Bit like being on an enormous version of the Wild Mouse going there and on the way back...hmmm well all those French Rugby fans made it an 'intresting' journey coming back with their singing , stamping and chanting...come on Wales..stuff them...is all I have to add.

Business done over there and had a few days when the weather turned peachy to take a few snaps and also check out a lot of galleries dotted about Brittany, you can teach an old dog new tricks as I saw some ways of presentation that , well maybe, only the French could dream up...I will be stealing in my best plagiarising way some of them... Images to follow.. computer grinding away as it (finally) gets another of my WWPW2013 prizes .so will the NIK EFX collection change the way my images appear...well Silver Efx may do that to my Mono stuff but until I rummage around in there...well who knows!! Okay as it's a google product it shut down the lot and after a while, I'm back again... so I'll buzz of and go and see what NIK software can do for me what no other software can.... but in the mean time...
500 px seems to want, and now does , licence some of my images, as well as have them there for retail purposes which is nice..I think I'll jump a bit more into 500px as it does sem to suit the ..ahem..'quirky' style of image making I'm doing at the moment, wallet out time for a subscription then.. almost fainted as Getty pulled their finger out and sold something last month...was there an R in the month???? So time to download some more french stuff, I've gone back a bit on the technique front and done quite a few, double exposures...yes just the 2 multi's..some looked good but what do I know until we go full screen could be bin jobs...best to find out... Morlaix, Huelgoat, Roscoff...and odd bits of countryside..I will whip them all up into a souffle of quirkyness...

So just fizzed past some from January of this year and now into a rump of files from June mainly to do with the Scottish Highlands...so many..and looks like i had a fluffy sensor at some points so a bit of uber-tickling with some content aware spotting. Here's some I did earlier
Picture
Europa Beach, Lewis
Picture
Luskentyre and Taransay, Harris , Outer Hebrides
Picture
McDonald Stone, South Harris.

Europa Beach, Isle of Lewis.
So new Panoramas and a big pile of Daylight long exposures to get through, now they'll all fill up a gallery on their own soon but I'll post into these blog pages until I have them all done. Next trick is to send them hither and thither to earn themselves a crust... that can wait as I just havn't got it in me to do some mega keyword faff...back to those Bonny Scottish files.. aaayyyyyyeeee....

Well there we have it folks, the results are in, phone lines are now closed and the golden envelope is about to be opened and.....I can hear a drum roll...I havn't won..tumbleweed time but what's this, after the Lord Mayors show comes the first batch of losers and blow me , I'm in there, my natural habitat, top 10 finish and maybe, just maybe a bag of swag to rifle through, but I'm not holding my breath until I get an email from RC telling me to 'hit the yes button' I f that happens then I'll spread out some of the bountious wealth amongst the folk who came on the walk...maybe a Christmas do if we are lucky..again please don't hold your breath..stuff may come or it may just dwindle.... so here is the page to see what won..are those verticals correct????

hmmmm    http://scottkelby.com/2013/announcing-the-winner-of-my-2013-worldwide-photo-walk-leaders-contest/

and, if you havn't cast your peepers on it, this is my entry...

A 7 shot wide angle panorama in the Turkish Bath at the Victoria Baths in Manchester with Laura Norrey dropped into the doorway. So there we have it, Great Venue, lots of lovely Photo folk and some almost winners in there as well..not bad as we were up against 25,000 other snappers on the day.... oh and maybe some prizes  to have a play with...

...... at Frodsham camera Club . Really nice venue and a great welcome from one and all. Big thanks to Ian Stanley for the booking and from  the club members, their attentiveness and questions from the floor. As I tell everyone...any questions or clarification over all the techniques on show..well just email me and I can explain it all...
So , dare I ask...are there really greenshoots, that flickering stirring of light at the end of the tunnel, the return to the 'bubble'. Just curious as for, not the first time in recent weeks, I've woken up to an inbox of emails from people wanting to buy things, image libraries having sold stuff and  other sales based enquiries..pleasant change from Solar panel, Retirement annuity options and short term loan companies that my profile seems to attract.  Could almost be 2008/9 all over again...ah...Golden Days.... but I've watched this roller coaster for a long time so I'll chalk this up as a blip....if it keeps going ..well that could be another story.
So I can tell you what I'm doing for the next few weeks and that's uploading and keywording (oh lord he's not on about keywording again..) no just what I've got to do,and as the weather dial seems to be turning towards the cacky part  for the next  month or so, parking myself in my office and watching the outside turn brown and wintry is quite appealing. Could be time for a dose of wacky 'studio' portraiture as well...we'll see... okay one from the weekend.

Developmental

I'm not the one to define where the boundaries of photographic art, photo journalism and photography blur and blend, do you tell folk that you are a 'fine art photographer' or expect that any reasonably computer and photographically enabled visitor has the ability to place their own definition on your work. In many ways the explosion of images on the internet have allowed us an uninhibited and un-blinkered look at how other folk with cameras  take a view of things and start an open or closed conversation using their ability to capture a moment.
Now quite surprisingly out there in the non virtual world are people who are not  savvy to the plethora of hardware and software that lies behind the creation of most of today's imagery. Not that they don't care, they don't need to, but most know what they like and certainly know what they don't. In the music industry they used to be the Old Greys, knew what they liked and ....er liked it.  Now as my one or two regular readers know I've owned galleries, stood there at trade shows selling images and frames, attempting to provide what is wanted  without knowing what was wanted, pre guessing, imposing on the buyer what I want them to buy...and this is where I am now, on the verge of selling to non photographic literates things that I think will have a resonance, be consumer friendly, be something worth owning.
And so the developmental definition of who I am in a photographic sense begins, fine art, experimental, mainstream, odd???? My own definition of how I think I'm perceived, well I'll keep that to myself, how the Old Greys will see me, well that is what I'm about to find out.
Well one from the experimental bin, the photographic earworm is back gnawing away and making me veer about a bit, I can already see the next phase of this type of imagery and so on this dull grey monday I give you...layered panoramas.....add salt to taste

I've had the duster out again

Getting ready for all the new stuff that will be coming online over the next few weeks. It will be a move away from some of the more 'social' photographic areas like tweeting and facebooking and into the retailing side of things with the emphasis being on promoting away from my photographic circles. No I'm not going away just redrawing the boundaries a bit. It also means a move away from image library work. Even I can see where it is going, more images going on line every single day, prices constantly dropping, payment times increasing..... So I will be shooting less which should work out okay as fitting in the 'plonk and shoot' library stuff was beginning to wear anyway, I'm glad I was there when it was vibrant and buzzing which is only 5 years ago..the crash did a lot of damage...more people trying to make a living out of their cameras and the deluge of pretty decent DSLR equipment onto the market , image libraries and news agencies now take Phone images, so times change and if you don't evolve chances are you'll be left behind. So for me with my stock of over 10,000 usable images it's time for me to make some retail use out of them and that's certainly what I intend to do now.
